Spur Liquid Farmer can be used as cleaner, bleach or reducer, depending on dilution.
If you want to use it as a cleaner, a low dilution should be used. Developing machines and tanks can be cleaned. A low dilution let it also act as a strong bleach.
A medium dilution has a weaker bleaching effect and has a reducing effect on some emulsions.
A high dilution has an acceptable reducing effect on some emulsions.
It has to be tested by the user which dilution is useful for which emulsion.
Recommended starting dilutions are:
1 part A + 1 part B + 8 parts water = low dilution
1 part A + 1 part B + 18 parts water = medium dilution
1 part A + 1 part B + 28 parts water = high dilution
Of course all intermediate dilutions can be used.
The working solution can be used for 30-40 minutes.
What is a Farmer's Reducer?
It is "liquid light". If your print has areas which you want more brilliant and light (the white of the eye and teeth in a portrait for example), you can apply Farmer's reducer with a brush. This area will light up. You repeat this procedure until the desired effect is reached. The print should be wet before applying Farmer's. The same effect can be reached with normal bleach. The disadvantage of normal bleach is that you can see the effect of the bleaching only after fixing and not during bleaching. With Farmer's you can see the effect directly while applying. You can use fixer to stop the action of Farmer's quickly. Anyway the print should be put into fresh fixer after the treatment with Farmer's.
Farmer's can also be used on overexposed or overdeveloped negatives. Immerse the negative into the farmer and agitate. This can be done under normal room light. When you see that the shadows lighten, remove it and rinse. After this fix the negative in fresh fixer.
